Cookie Policy

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used when you visit RV-Roundup.com, what each one does, how long it lasts and how you can control it. In short: we don’t use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking, and our visitor statistics work without cookies.

The short version

About this policy

RV-Roundup.com (“RV-Roundup,” “we,” “us” or “our”) is an independent travel guide for RVers. This Cookie Policy applies to RV-Roundup.com and all of its pages. It should be read together with our Privacy Statement, which explains more broadly how we handle information about visitors.

We have written this policy to describe what the site actually does today. We review it whenever we add or remove a tool that could place a cookie on your device.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser when you visit. They let a site recognize your browser on later page views or visits, for example to keep you signed in or to remember a choice you made.

This policy also covers similar technologies that work in a comparable way, such as your browser’s local storage and session storage, and pixels or scripts that load from another company’s servers. When we say “cookies” in this policy, we include these technologies unless we say otherwise.

Key terms

  • First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting, in this case RV-Roundup.com.
  • Third-party cookies are set by a different company whose content appears on the page, such as an embedded map or video.
  • Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them.

How we use cookies

We group cookies by what they do. RV-Roundup.com uses only the categories below.

  • Strictly necessary. Needed for a feature to work, such as signing in to the site’s admin area. These can’t be switched off on our side, but you can block them in your browser.
  • Functional. Remember a choice you made, such as saving your name and email address for the next time you comment. These are set only when you ask for them.
  • Third-party content. Set by Google when an embedded map or video loads on a page. These are controlled by Google, not by us.

We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or social media tracking cookies.

Cookies and storage we set

The tables below list every cookie and storage item that RV-Roundup.com sets itself. Names in square brackets, such as [hash], stand for a code that is unique to the site or to your account.

Strictly necessary: signing in

These cookies are set only for people who sign in to the site’s WordPress admin area, such as our editors. If you are simply reading the site, you will never receive them.

Visitor statistics without cookies

To understand which guides are useful, we use Independent Analytics, a statistics tool that runs on our own website rather than on an outside service. It does not place cookies in your browser, and the data it records stays in our own database. It is not shared with Google or any other analytics or advertising company.

It helps us see things such as how many people viewed a page, which sites sent visitors to us, and what type of device or browser was used. According to its developer, it does not store your IP address or other information that identifies you.

Maps and videos from other services

Many RV park, attraction and restaurant pages include content provided by Google. When this content loads, your browser connects to Google’s servers, and Google may set or read its own cookies and receive information such as your IP address and the page you were viewing. Google’s use of that information is governed by its own policies, not ours.

Google Maps

Embedded maps show where a park or business is located. A map loads from Google when it scrolls into view on the page. We always give the address or location in text as well, so you can find a place without using the map.

YouTube videos

Video previews on our pages are images stored on RV-Roundup.com. The YouTube player, and any cookies YouTube uses, loads only when you press play. YouTube may use cookies to remember your player settings, measure viewing and, depending on your Google account settings, personalize ads.

To learn more, see how Google uses cookies and the Google Privacy Policy. You can review your Google ad preferences in My Ad Center.

RV-Roundup is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Some links to products on Amazon.com are affiliate links. No Amazon cookies are set while you are on RV-Roundup.com. If you click an affiliate link and go to Amazon, Amazon may set cookies on its own site to record that you came from RV-Roundup, so that we can earn a commission on qualifying purchases. This does not change the price you pay. Amazon’s practices are described in the Amazon Cookies Notice.

We also link to RV parks, restaurants, attractions, booking and review sites, and government agencies so you can check details at the source. Once you leave RV-Roundup.com, those websites may use their own cookies under their own policies, which we don’t control.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t use advertising networks, retargeting or ad-measurement cookies.
  • We don’t use social media pixels or tracking scripts, such as those offered by Facebook or TikTok.
  • We don’t use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service.
  • We don’t use cookies to build a profile of you or to track you across other websites.
  • We don’t sell or share personal information collected through cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising.

How to manage or delete cookies

You can choose whether to accept cookies. Most browsers let you see the cookies stored on your device, delete them, and block cookies from all sites or from third parties only. Here is how to do it in common browsers:

What happens if you block cookies:

  • Reading the site: every guide, map address and tip will still work.
  • Third-party cookies blocked: embedded maps and videos usually still display, but Google may be unable to set or read its cookies.
  • All cookies blocked: the comment form won’t remember your details, and signing in to the admin area won’t work.

You can also use your browser’s private or incognito mode, which deletes cookies when you close the window. If you use more than one browser or device, you will need to set your preferences on each one.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Do Not Track. Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” request. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to it. Because RV-Roundup.com does not track visitors across other websites, our practices are the same whether or not your browser sends this signal.

Global Privacy Control. Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser setting that tells websites you want to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We don’t sell or share personal information, but if your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of any such sale or sharing, as required by applicable law.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act), other U.S. state privacy laws, or the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation may give you rights over information about you. These can include the right to know what information is collected, to access or delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.

The cookies RV-Roundup.com sets itself are either strictly necessary for a feature you use or set at your request. Cookies set by Google through embedded maps and videos are controlled by Google, and you can exercise your rights over them through your Google account or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser. To make a request about information we hold, contact us using the details below. We won’t treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.

Children’s privacy

RV-Roundup.com is a general-audience travel guide and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly use cookies to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we add or remove tools, when the services we use change how they work, or when the law changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. If we make a significant change, such as adding a new type of cookie that isn’t strictly necessary, we will say so clearly on this page and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.
