The basics
Three kinds of toy hauler
A toy hauler, which the RV industry also calls a sport utility RV, has a garage in the back and a rear wall that drops down into a loading ramp. It comes in three shapes.
Bumper pull · about 14–43 ft
Travel trailer toy haulers
Hitch to a ball on the truck, so a big SUV or half-ton pickup can pull the lighter ones. Garages run from about 8 ft in compact trailers to 16 ft in the longest.
Fifth wheel · about 32–47 ft
Fifth-wheel toy haulers
Hitch in the pickup bed, which steadies heavy loads. They hold the biggest garages, up to 17 ft, and most of the luxury floorplans. Plan on a three-quarter or one-ton truck.
Motorized · 31 ft and up
Motorhome toy haulers
Class A, Class C and Super C motorhomes with a rear garage. Only a few are still built: the Thor Outlaw, the Newmar Canyon Star 3947 and custom Super Cs.
The short answer
The biggest toy hauler makers are Forest River (XLR, Vengeance, Cherokee Wolf Pack, Sandstorm, Stealth and Nightfall, plus Coachmen), Thor Industries (Keystone Fuzion, Raptor and Carbon; Jayco Seismic; Heartland Cyclone) and Winnebago Industries (Grand Design Momentum). Independents such as Alliance, Brinkley, ATC, Northwood, Black Series, inTech and Genesis Supreme fill the luxury, aluminum and off-road niches. For a motorhome with a garage, look at the Thor Outlaw and Newmar Canyon Star 3947. Whatever the badge, start with the toy: its length, width and weight decide which garage and how much cargo capacity you need.
Know the parts
What makes it a toy hauler
Six features separate a toy hauler from an ordinary trailer or fifth wheel. The numbers match the drawing.
- Ramp door The back wall hinges down into a loading ramp, and on many models it doubles as a patio deck with rails. Ramp ratings are often missing from spec sheets, so ask: Forest River lists the Vengeance Rogue Armored ramp at 3,000 lb.
- Garage The box behind the living area. Lengths in our listing run from about 8 ft in compact trailers to 17 ft in the biggest fifth wheels. Check the width too: a four-seat side-by-side can be 72 inches wide.
- Tie-downs D-rings or tracks in the floor and walls to strap the toys in place. Grand Design’s Momentum uses 2,500 lb flush-mount tie-downs; the Vengeance Rogue Armored lists 5,000 lb.
- Fuel station An onboard gas tank and pump for refueling toys and the generator. Momentum floorplans carry 30 or 60 gallons depending on the floorplan.
- Convertible garage Fold-up sofas, a dinette and beds that lower from the ceiling turn the empty garage into a bunk room or second living room. Thor’s Outlaw Class C 29T, for one, has a Murphy bed and sofa at the back.
- Tough floor and vents A gas- and oil-resistant floor, plus side vents. Keep the vents open whenever the ramp is closed, including while you drive, because fuel fumes collect in a closed garage.
Fuel on board
A toy hauler carries gasoline, toys with fuel in their tanks and propane all at once. Check the CO, propane and smoke alarms before every trip, keep one fire extinguisher in the garage and one in the living area, and strap fuel cans to at least two tie-downs.

Motorhome toy haulers for 2027
Only a handful of motorhomes still come with a garage. These are the ones in production for the 2027 model year.
Gas Class A
Thor Outlaw Class A
Two floorplans, the 38K and 38M, both 39’9″ on the Ford F53 gas chassis. The 38K has a patio-style ramp door. Thor lists an MSRP from $280,700.
Good to know: A dealer lists the 38M garage at about 8 ft by 10 ft 2 in; check the floorplan you want before you buy.
Gas Class C
Thor Outlaw Class C
The 29T has a rear ramp garage and the 29J a rear patio deck, both 31’2″ on a Ford chassis with a 14,500 lb GVWR. The 29T has a Murphy bed and sofa so the garage doubles as a bedroom. MSRP from $180,880.
Good to know: Published garage sizes conflict between sources, so measure the 29T at the dealer.
Diesel Class A
Newmar Canyon Star 3947
A 39-foot Class A on a Freightliner Custom Chassis with a 340-horsepower diesel up front, and a 10 ft garage behind a rear ramp door. Newmar calls it the only front-engine diesel Class A toy hauler on the market. From $392,840.
Good to know: Ask Newmar or the dealer for the garage and ramp weight ratings before you load a heavy side-by-side.
Super C, built to order
Renegade Classic
Renegade builds the Classic on Peterbilt or Freightliner semi-truck chassis. The 2027 brochure shows garage floorplans (2509, 2609 and 2509GS) with an 8’6″ garage.
Good to know: Lengths and prices are by quote only.
Super C, custom
ShowHauler
A small Indiana shop that builds around four custom toy haulers a year on Freightliner, Peterbilt or Kenworth chassis, usually with a 9–10 ft garage, and able to tow up to 30,000 lb.
Good to know: RV PRO reported prices of roughly $550,000 to $700,000 and builds of six to seven months in June 2026.
Not toy haulers
Checked and left off the list
Some motorhomes come up in toy hauler searches but don’t have a rear garage for 2027: the Entegra Accolade XT, Jayco Seneca XT, Renegade Verona and Nexus Maximus. Dynamax’s Force HD toy hauler last appears in 2021–2022 listings.
Good to know: Want a motorhome and more toys? Many owners tow an enclosed cargo trailer behind a Class A or Super C instead.
Step by step
How to choose a toy hauler
Work from the toy back to the truck, not the other way round. Six checks before you shop floorplans.
- Measure the toys Write down the length, width and height of everything that rides in the garage, with mirrors and racks on. Leave room to walk around the toys and reach the tie-downs.
- Add up the weight Toys, gear, water, propane and a full fuel station all come out of the cargo carrying capacity: the GVWR minus the empty weight. Gasoline weighs about 6 lb a gallon, so a full 60-gallon fuel station adds about 360 lb.
- Match the truck to the loaded trailer Compare the truck’s towing rating and payload with the trailer’s loaded weight, not its brochure weight. Hitch weight changes as the garage fills, and many RVers stay at or below about 80 percent of the tow rating.
- Pick a garage style An open garage is part of the living area, which gives you more room when it’s empty. A separate garage has its own wall and door, which keeps dirt and fumes away from the beds and kitchen.
- Check the ramp and tie-down ratings Compare them with your heaviest toy. Ask the dealer for the ramp rating in loading mode and in patio mode, since they aren’t always on the spec sheet.
- Compare the twins Several brands share floorplans with a sister model under another name. Line up the floorplan drawings, warranty and price before you settle on a badge.
Will it fit?
Side-by-sides are the toys that decide most garages. A two-seater is about 10 ft long and fits most 11 ft garages; a four-seater needs about 13 ft and, at 72 inches, a wide door.
| Model | Length | Width | Dry weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| RZR XP 1000 Sport (2 seats) | 119.5 in | 64 in | 1,586 lb |
| RZR XP S 4 1000 (4 seats) | 149.8 in | 72 in | 1,995 lb |
| RZR Pro XP 4 (4 seats) | 155 in | 64 in | 2,102 lb |

Retired and renamed
What changed in the toy hauler lineup
Older toy hauler lists are full of names you can no longer buy new. Here is what happened to them, as of our November 2026 check.
M-Class is now Momentum
Grand Design folded its top fifth wheel, the Momentum M-Class, into the main Momentum line with the same floorplans and model numbers.
Impact became Fuzion Impact Edition
Keystone’s Impact fifth wheel now sells as the Fuzion Impact Edition; Fuzion and Raptor themselves continue with new 2027 floorplans.
Heartland moved under Jayco
Thor folded Heartland into Jayco in March 2025. Heartland’s site now shows only Cyclone toy haulers; Road Warrior, Fuel and Torque are gone from it.
Jayco Talon and Octane
Neither appears on Jayco’s toy hauler page, which now lists only Seismic, the new Seismic Travel Trailer and Jay Flight toy hauler floorplans.
Dutchmen Voltage
Dutchmen’s toy hauler page no longer names a model line. The newest Voltage we found for sale was a 2024.
XLR Hyperlite
Forest River lists the Hyperlite travel trailer as dealer stock only, so look for leftover new units rather than a 2027 model.
Twins under different badges
Sandstorm, Stealth and Shockwave share model numbers; Work and Play and Coachmen Adrenaline use the same six floorplan codes; the Jayco Seismic and Heartland Cyclone travel trailers list identical weights.
Pacific Coachworks is now Genesis Supreme
Genesis Supreme bought Pacific Coachworks’ brands and equipment in November 2020 and retired the Pacific Coachworks name.
Brinkley Model G 3500 retired
Brinkley marks the Model G 3500 as retired and added the lighter Model Gx series for 2027.

Use your judgment. Specifications, floorplans and prices change by model year and sometimes mid-year, and makers measure length and weight in different ways. Confirm every figure with the manufacturer or dealer, and check your tow vehicle’s ratings against the loaded weight before you buy. No manufacturer paid to be on this page, and RV-Roundup isn’t affiliated with any of the brands listed. This page is general information; RV-Roundup is not responsible for errors, omissions or changes made after publication.
