What you’ll see
Wild river, salt marsh and a quiet ramp
A remote state park at the end of CR-14, where the dark Econfina River winds through palms and pines toward the Gulf, with a boat ramp, trails and very few people.

Start here
The river and the ramp
The heart of the park is the boat ramp on the Econfina, a small blackwater river that winds for 43 miles and empties into the Gulf about 2.2 miles below the ramp. Anglers launch here for the shallow coastal flats, and paddlers use it to explore upstream or to join the Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail along the coast.
RV tip: the park is about 32 minutes from Rocky’s Campground on US-98. The last 6 miles are on CR-14, a rural road that ends at the park, so it’s an out-and-back drive.
More to see
- Trails through the flatwoodsHiking, biking and equestrian trails cross pine flatwoods and oak-palm forest. Parts may flood during the rainy season.
- WildlifeFlorida black bears, white-tailed deer, otters, bobcats, bald eagles, herons and egrets all live here, according to the park.
- Picnic pavilion by the riverA picnic pavilion and restrooms sit near the water, and potable water is available at the restroom.
- Camping nearbyThe park has a primitive campsite by reservation but no RV hookups. A private resort just outside the park offers lodging and RV hookups.

Why go
A corner of untouched Big Bend coast
Econfina River State Park protects pine flatwoods, oak-palm hammocks and broad salt marsh dotted with pine islands where the Econfina meets Apalachee Bay. People have fished and hunted along this river since prehistoric times, and it still looks the part: dark tannin water, cabbage palms and big, empty marsh.
For RVers it’s a half-day outing from the Perry parks: a 30- to 50-minute drive west on US-98 and south on CR-14, a $2 fee, and a launch, a picnic or a walk in the woods. Bring your own boat or kayak; we found no rentals listed for the park.
Go early or late in the day for fishing and birding, and bring bug spray and sunscreen. Spring and fall are the most comfortable; summer brings heat, bugs and afternoon storms.

Pets
Florida state parks generally allow leashed pets (6-foot leash or shorter) in outdoor areas. Keep dogs close near the water, where alligators can be present.
