Why go

Why the tram belongs on your Jackson trip

The current tram, nicknamed Big Red, carries 100 people and went into service in December 2008, replacing the original 63-person tram that ran for 40 years. The ride climbs 4,139 vertical feet to the 10,450-foot summit of Rendezvous Mountain. The resort gives the ride time as about 9 to 12 minutes.

Teton Village is at the end of WY-390, the road north from WY-22 near Wilson. The resort offers free daytime RV parking in the Ranch and Stilson lots, and every Teton Village lot is free in summer. Don’t try to reach it from Grand Teton on the Moose-Wilson Road in the rig; that road is closed to RVs and trailers.

In summer 2026 the tram ran daily from 9 am to 5 pm starting May 16. It’s closed between seasons now. The 2026–27 winter season opens November 27, and winter sightseeing depends on the weather.

For RVers

Riding the tram on an RV trip

The practical stuff we wished someone had told us before we pulled in.

Park in Ranch or Stilson

The resort allows free daytime RV parking in the Ranch Lot and Stilson Lot, with no overnight parking. In summer, all Teton Village lots are free.

Skip the Moose-Wilson Road

Coming from Grand Teton? Don’t take the rig on the Moose-Wilson Road; it’s closed to RVs, trailers and vehicles over 23 feet. Come around through Wilson on WY-22 and WY-390.

Or ride the bus

START buses run from downtown Jackson to Teton Village for $3 one way, a good option if you leave the tow car in town.

Dogs stay behind

Only service animals may ride the tram in summer, and no dogs at all are allowed on lifts in winter. Plan for pets to stay at camp.
