The 12-zipline adventure
The most popular tour rides all 12 lines, including the longest and fastest, with a rope bridge and a tree-top to tree-top stretch. You finish by jumping off the 45-foot adventure tower or zipping onto a rooftop patio. Two guides run each tour and handle the braking, and the course is ACCT inspected. Allow 2.5 to 3 hours.
RV tip: the tour starts with a 15 to 20 minute uphill hike that gains about 400 feet from Durango’s 6,500-foot elevation. Take it slow, bring a water bottle with a clip, and check in 30 minutes before your tour.
More to see
- 6-zipline tourA shorter tour over the same ponderosa pines, with a 10-minute uphill hike and snacks and water. It skips the tower free fall. From $99.99 per person.
- Hour on the TowerZip to the top of the 45-foot tower, take the free fall, then climb four rope elements on auto-belays. About 1 to 1¼ hours, ages 5 and up, $59.99.
- Axe throwingDurango’s only outdoor axe throwing, with four regulation cages and an instructor. One-hour sessions start hourly from 9 am, with the last booking at 7 pm. Ages 13 and up, $19.99 per person.
- Winter zipliningThe course runs in every season, and snow on the pines is part of the show. Wear ski clothes or non-cotton layers, and boots from November through March.

Why go
A mountain thrill about a mile from downtown Durango
Durango Adventures runs its course in a protected nature park in the San Juan Mountains about a mile west of downtown, with ziplines strung between massive timber towers and ponderosa pines and mountain views in every direction. Guides handle the braking, so there is no hand braking to learn, and the company says it has been open for more than 10 years.
For RVers it is an easy half-day. The zipline office sits right on US-160 at 20673 US-160, which the company puts 5 to 10 minutes from downtown, so you can leave the rig at camp, drive over in the tow vehicle and still have the afternoon for Main Avenue or the Animas River.
Late October works well. The course runs year-round, rain, snow or shine, so there is no closing date to beat. Dress in non-cotton layers now, and once snow arrives wear ski clothes and boots; guests who have zipped here in winter say the snow-covered pines are a highlight.

Taking the rig to Durango Adventures
The practical stuff we wished someone had told us before we pulled in.
Bring the tow vehicle
The meeting point is the zipline office at 20673 US-160, on the highway west of town. Durango Adventures does not publish parking details for RVs or trailers, so call (970) 759-9880 before arriving in a big rig, or leave it at camp and drive over in your tow vehicle or car.
Check the weight and age rules
Zipline riders must weigh 40 to 230 pounds, including clothes and shoes, and everyone is weighed at check-in; over the limit means no refund. Kids 15 and under need a paying adult on the tour, and 16- and 17-year-olds need an adult on the property.
Book ahead and arrive early
The company suggests booking at least a week ahead, and bookings become non-refundable 72 hours before the tour. Check in 30 minutes early, since late arrivals are not refunded, and sign the waiver that arrives by email. Pet rules are not published, so ask before bringing a dog.
Dress for mountain weather
Tours run rain, snow or shine, and bad weather can delay a tour by up to an hour. Wear closed-toe shoes and non-cotton layers, and boots from November through March. Phones stay zipped in a pocket and backpacks stay behind; the office has cubbies for valuables.
