Start here

A flight of house beer and the fried avocado

Start with the beer, brewed on site alongside rotating guest taps; Arizona Highways named the Jailbait Blonde its most popular pour. Pair it with the fried avocado, a starter Google reviewers mention in 36 reviews, then move on to the brisket.

RV tip: the front patio is heated in winter and misted in summer, and leashed dogs are welcome there, so the dog can come along for lunch.

Also worth ordering

  • Smoked brisketThe most-mentioned dish in Google’s review topics (42 reviews), from meat smoked in house.
  • PoutineFries with gravy and cheese curds, named in 10 Google reviews.
  • The “What’s Your Poblano, Man?” burgerA named burger that Arizona Highways calls out.
  • Back beer gardenBesides the Main Street patio, there’s a beer garden out back.

Why go

Yuma’s own brewery, a block from the river

Yuma native Chris Wheeler opened Prison Hill in 2014, when Yuma had no craft brewery. The name and the beers nod to the Yuma Territorial Prison on the hill above the river, and the “Food with Conviction” slogan carries the joke onto the menu.

It holds 4.3 on Google from more than 1,400 reviews and sits in Tripadvisor’s top 10 for Yuma. Reviewers like the beer, the patios and the smoked meats; the most common complaint is slow service at busy times.

For RVers it’s an easy pairing with the Territorial Prison or Colorado River State Historic Park, both a short drive away. It’s about 10 minutes from Suni Sands and 13 minutes from the parks off I-8 Exit 7.

The practical stuff we wished someone had told us before we pulled in.

Park behind the brewery

The brewery lists free street parking in front and a free lot behind the building, and its OpenTable listing points to more public lots off Madison Avenue, 3rd Street and Gila Street. No RV rules are posted, so we’d bring the tow vehicle.

Bring the dog to the patio

Leashed dogs are welcome on the partly covered front patio, which is heated in winter and misted in summer. One BringFido reviewer says patio access can be limited in extreme heat.

Check weekend closing times

The website lists midnight closing on Friday and Saturday, with a late-night menu after 10 pm, but its contact page and Yelp list earlier times. Call (928) 276-4001 before a late visit.

Plan a designated driver

This is a brewery with a full bar. If you’re sampling a flight, choose a driver for the trip back to camp.
