The Derailed story

A family saloon turned Main Avenue favorite

The Gibson family took over this downtown spot in 2008, when it was still a saloon, and slowly turned it into a speakeasy-style bar and restaurant. The centerpiece is a grand mahogany back bar that came from 1890s Silverton, set off by a wood-burning fireplace, booths built from salvaged doors and string-lit trees. Old music videos from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s play on five big screens.

Tripadvisor has ranked it among the best casual-dining restaurants in the United States three years running: 19th in 2023, 12th in 2024 and 14th in 2025. It also sits at number one among Durango restaurants on the site. Locals know it for themed cocktails, a covered back porch, live music and nightly specials.

Why it made our list
