What to order

A big brewpub menu of chowder, fish and chips, burgers and salads, built to go with beer brewed by Pelican. There’s a kids’ menu for ages 12 and under, and some dishes can be made gluten-free.

A house favorite

Fish and chips

One of the two dishes reviewers mention most, along with the clam chowder. It’s $26.99 on the May 2026 menu, and a cup of chowder is $9.99 (bowl $14.79).

Pro tip: Pair it with Kiwanda Cream Ale, Pelican’s flagship. Happy hour runs 3 to 6 pm Sunday through Thursday, and a weekday table near the windows is easier to get than a summer weekend one.

The Pelican story

A beachfront brewpub since 1996

Jeff Schons and Mary Jones opened Pelican in May 1996 in a run-down building on the beach at Cape Kiwanda, with Darron Welch brewing from the very first batch. Main brewing moved to a bigger brewery in Tillamook in 2014, but Pacific City is still the original pub.

Pelican beers have won dozens of Great American Beer Festival medals and the 2014 World Beer Cup title for champion small brewing company. The company now has pubs up and down the north coast; this is the one on the sand, with Haystack Rock out the window.

Why it made our list

  • The original Pelican pub, right on the beach
  • Award-winning beer from a GABF-medal brewery
  • Haystack Rock and Cape Kiwanda out the window
  • About an hour from Sea & Sand RV Park
