What campers say

The campground report card

We don’t recycle other sites’ reviews, but the published scores tell a mixed story: campers love the water views, fishing, birds and friendly staff, and complain about airboat noise, narrow roads, tight sites and weak Wi-Fi.

Before you book

Plan your stay

Everything that decides whether Torry Island fits your rig, your dates and your budget, in one place.

Our take: a good-value base for anglers and boaters who want to wake up on the water, with lake views, new boat ramps and sites from $40 a night. Roads are narrow, sites are close, and airboats, cane-burning smoke and weak Wi-Fi come with the territory, so pick your site group carefully and call ahead.

Torry Island Campground (also called Torry Island Campground & Marina) is run by the City of Belle Glade on an island on the southern shore of Lake Okeechobee. It’s a big, casual campground for RVers who care more about fishing, boating and sunsets than resort polish.

Best for

  • Anglers and boaters: brand-new six-lane boat ramps and a bait and tackle store on the island.
  • Waterfront fans: the Main “water sites” put your rig on the water for $70 a night.
  • Long stays on a budget: monthly rates start at $520, and winter storage is available.
  • Birders and walkers: two nature trails, an observation tower and the dike for hiking and biking.

Consider this

  • Roads are narrow with no turnaround at dead ends, and sites are small and close, reviewers say.
  • Airboats and boat-ramp traffic can be noisy, and sugar cane burning brings smoke.
  • Wi-Fi and cell signal are weak, and reviewers report power outages.
  • Booking is by phone only, and some reviewers say their site didn’t match their reservation.

  • Is it 30 or 50 amp? Listings disagree, so ask for your site.
  • Can I get exactly the site I reserved? Ask the office to confirm your site number.
  • What time can I arrive? Arriving between 8 and 11 a.m. costs $5; ask about check-in times.

Frequently asked questions

A few details before you hit the road.

You’re on it. The campground sits on Torry Island, a 640-acre island on the southern shore of the lake, just west of Belle Glade. Waterfront sites, boat ramps and the dike are right there.

Many sites do. Depending on the site group, you get full hookups or water and electric only, and there are dump stations on site. Listings disagree on 30 versus 50 amp, so ask about your site.

From $40 to $70 a night, $160 to $300 a week, or $520 to $760 a month, including sales tax and the county tourism tax (rates effective October 1, 2025). Base rates cover 2 adults and 2 children; extra guests are $5 a day.

The city doesn’t publish a maximum length. The Dyrt says RVs up to 35 ft, and a Campendium user reported a 42-ft rig. Reviewers warn about narrow roads with no turnaround at dead ends, so tell the office your length when you call.

The Torry Island Swing Bridge is a one-lane, hand-cranked bridge from 1935, owned by Palm Beach County and still in use. It’s the only way onto the island, so take it slow.

Yes, unoccupied winter storage (November to April) runs $345 to $385 depending on the site group. There’s no storage on sites 1–216 and 401–429.
