Watch from the viewing gallery

The viewing gallery gives you a behind-the-scenes look down onto the cheese factory, where blocks of what Tillamook calls “real future Tillamook cheese” move through the line. Exhibits explain how cheese is aged anywhere from 3 months to 5 years. The packaging schedule runs Monday through Saturday, so plan a weekday or Saturday visit if you want to see the line moving.

RV tip: RVs and oversized vehicles must park in the overflow lot, so skip the main lot entirely. Tripadvisor reviewers often mention weekend crowds, so a weekday visit near the 10 am opening is the easier bet.

More to see

  • Sample counterTillamook says it always switches up the cheese samples, so the lineup changes from visit to visit. It’s a free taste of several cheeses before you decide what to buy in the gift shop.
  • Farm Exhibit HallExhibits cover the co-op’s farms and how the cows are cared for, down to fitness trackers and extra-soft bedding. It’s a quick, hands-on stop that kids tend to enjoy.
  • Ice cream counterThe ice cream counter is the line most people come for. If someone in your group has an allergy, staff can use a fresh scoop or open a new carton, and a fruit sorbet is on offer.
  • Photo stops and Tillie huntClimb behind the wheel of the Tillamook Yum Bus, see the Floating Loaves sculpture by Olson Kundig, meet Flower the show cow, and look for six hidden Tillie mascots around the building.

Why go

Why the Tillamook Creamery is worth a stop

Tillamook County Creamery Association is a farmer-owned co-op founded in 1909, with nearly 90 farm families at the time the new visitor center opened. That 42,800-square-foot building, designed by Olson Kundig, opened on June 20, 2018, and was more than 50% larger than the old one. More than 1.3 million people visit each year.

The Creamery sits right on US-101 at 4165 N Hwy 101, so it’s an easy stop on any north coast drive, with or without the rig. RVs and oversized vehicles have their own overflow lot, and the building is wheelchair accessible, with rental wheelchairs, hearing loops and sensory kits available.

It’s open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, closing only for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Tripadvisor reviewers often mention crowds and long lines on weekends, so a weekday morning is the calmest time. Come Monday through Saturday to see the packaging line running.

For RVers

Taking the rig to the Tillamook Creamery

The practical stuff we wished someone had told us before we pulled in.

Use the overflow lot

The Creamery has two large lots for cars, RVs and buses, but its policy is that all RVs and oversized vehicles must park in the overflow lot. That keeps you out of the tight main lot. The overflow lot also holds 12 Tesla Superchargers, so watch for charging stalls as you pull in.

Getting there on US-101

The Creamery’s address is 4165 N Hwy 101, so there’s no back-road navigation to worry about – you pull in straight off the coast highway at the north end of Tillamook. If you’re towing, use your tow vehicle or car and leave the big rig at camp if your park is close.

Pets stay outside

Pets aren’t allowed inside the Creamery; service animals are. Pets are welcome in the outside seating area, and Tillamook asks that you not leave pets unattended in vehicles. If it’s a warm day, take turns going inside or leave pets at the campsite.

No overnight parking

Overnight parking for RVs is prohibited, so plan this as a daytime stop between 10 am and 6 pm. Weekends bring the biggest crowds and lines, according to Tripadvisor reviewers, so a weekday arrival around opening makes parking and the ice cream line easier.
