The water park

The park’s water side includes Jumanji, a five-story slide, the Honolulu Half Pipe surf simulator, a wave pool and a lazy river, plus kids’ areas such as Buccaneer Cove, Croc Flats and Tadpole Pond. The park bills itself as having more than 40 attractions in all.

RV tip: outside food, drinks and coolers aren’t allowed, except infant food and one sealed water and one snack per person. Proper swimwear is required on the slides.

More to see

  • SkycoasterA swing that lifts riders about 100 feet and reaches up to 60 mph. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall, with an 800-pound combined weight limit.
  • Tropical Mini GolfFifty-four holes across three themed courses with waterfalls. Note that the Any Day ticket doesn’t cover mini golf or the Skycoaster.

Why go

A summer splash day close to camp

Big Kahuna’s opened in 1986 and has been through several owners; it was sold to Apex Parks Group in 2014 and is now run by Boomers Parks. It sits on US-98 East in Destin, a couple of miles from Henderson Beach State Park.

For RVers with kids or grandkids, the draw is how close it is to the Destin campgrounds: about 7 minutes from Henderson Beach’s campground. Parking is paid and good for one entry only, and the park doesn’t publish RV or trailer parking rules, so plan to come in the tow vehicle.

Timing matters most. The park’s calendar shows it closed every day from September 28 through at least November 3, 2026, and its website says it will see guests in 2027; no 2027 opening date was posted when we checked. It was already closed for the season when Hurricane Isaias came ashore on October 9.

Why it made our list

  • A five-story slide, wave pool and lazy river
  • Separate kids’ splash areas
  • Skycoaster and 54 holes of mini golf
  • About 7 minutes from Henderson Beach’s campground
  • Online tickets cost less than the gate

For RVers

Planning a Big Kahuna’s day from your RV

The practical stuff we wished someone had told us before we pulled in.

Come in the tow vehicle

Big Kahuna’s doesn’t publish RV or trailer parking rules. If you need to bring a large vehicle, call (850) 837-8319 first; otherwise leave the rig at camp.

Parking is one entry

Parking is paid for every guest, and the park says leaving the lot means paying again. Its season-pass page values standard parking at $20 and VIP at $35 per visit.

Leave pets at camp

The park doesn’t list a pet policy. Plan to leave pets at your campsite with someone, never in a parked vehicle in Florida heat.

Plan for next summer

The water park and adventure park share one calendar, and it shows the whole park closed for fall 2026. Watch the park hours page for 2027 dates.
