The campground report card
We don’t recycle other sites’ reviews, but the published scores are worth reading together: the pines, tidy grounds and friendly owners win praise, while the lack of restrooms, highway noise and some tight sites pull the averages down.

Out the gate
Around Flagstaff RV Park
Leave the rig hooked up. Forest trails start at the park, Sunset Crater is just up US-89, and downtown is about 12 minutes away.

Downtown Flagstaff & Route 66
Brick downtown, breweries, Route 66 history and the NAU campus, with Lowell Observatory on Mars Hill. Close enough for dinner in town.

Sunset Crater & Wupatki
Follow US-89 north to the loop road through Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki national monuments: lava flows, cinder cones and red sandstone pueblos. Through Oct. 21, 2026, the south end of the loop is closed for road work, so enter from the north through Wupatki.

Walnut Canyon
Cliff dwellings built into a limestone canyon, with the Island Trail looping past 25 rooms. Take the tow car: the monument recommends vehicles under 40 ft.

Grand Canyon South Rim
An easy day trip by Arizona standards: US-180 through the pines, or I-40 and AZ-64 via Williams. Leave early and pack water.
